A time of reflection on how we have lived our lives, loved our friends and families, and how much joy we have given and received. It’s also a time to look ahead and decide on how we are going to improve Turkey Dinnerthe new coming year and make a difference in others lives. I know for me, I want to make sure that I give more than receive and show more love and kindness to others. I also want to spend more quality time with my husband and children, and to encourage them to be the best that they can be. Blowing Rock SantaTo kick off the holiday season, head to Blowing Rock on Friday, November 27, for Christmas in the Park. Enjoy visits with Santa, caroling in the park, hot chocolate and the ceremonial lighting of the town beginning at 2 pm. For info, call 828-295-5222.
Chetola Resort’s Festival of Lights display in Blowing Rock is Chetola's Festival of Lights beginning Friday, November 27, and ending on January 31, 2010. Since 1989, Chetola has had a beautiful light display, now  consisting of 50,000 lights, set up on the resort’s 87 acres of property. The tour is free of charge, Chetola Carriage Ridesand starting on Friday, Nov.27,  Chetola will offer carriage rides and photograph opportunities from 5 – 9 pm traveling around Chetola Lake.  As visitors wait they can enjoy complimentary hot apple cider and house baked cookies. Rides are $15 for adults and $8 for children age 12 and under. Photographs cost $11. Pictures with Santa will beSanta at Chetola available  for $11 in the lobby of the Manor House from 5 – 9 pm, and cookie decorating from 5 – 7 pm. Christmas Crafts signMountain Top Promotion’s 6th Annual Christmas Craft Show at Boone Mall takes place two weeks earlier than usual from Friday to Sunday, November 27 – 29. The free show is open to the public from 10 am – 9 pm Friday and Saturday and 12:30 – 5:30 pm Sunday. More than 40 crafters will be displaying handmade and homemade goods fromChristmas Craft Show all sorts of fine jewelry, hand sewn pillow cases, quilts, placemats and stuffed toys; calligraphy; pottery; hand-painted signs; baskets; holiday dips and treats; photography; scarves and shawls; chimes and outdoor decorations, such as customizable fabric snowmen; paintings; glasswork, including lighted glass picture blocks; wood furniture and woodwork; homemade microwave heat packs; and candles of all kinds, such as one variety that melts to become hand lotion. Holiday Market pic 1Beech Mountain is also offering a Holiday Market on Saturday, November 28 from 10 am – 3 pm at Buckeye Recreation Center. The market will offer plenty of unique gift items made by local artisans, delicious food and live Christmas and folk music played by Art and Kathy Lang. Door prizes include yart (yarn art), gift baskets and a Zumba party. HOLIDAY PARADES are starting with the 1st one being The Blowing Blowing Rock Christmas ParadeRock Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, Nov, 28, at 2 pm, and line-up will start at noon.  RidingCompany_cmykThe Riding Company, an equestrian center located near Banner Elk, will host a family event featuring horse riding, games, music, food and more on Saturday, Nov. 28, beginning at 12 noon. Admission price is $20 per person and includes lunch, a dance party, appetizers and all the activities. Kids ages 5 and under free. Enjoy guided rides on 1,500 acres of equestrian trails, and guests can bring their own horses or rent one from the facility. Other activities include games, cowboy-themed contests, a sing-along hayride, and at 5 pm, a DJ will start playing tunes for an evening dance party, with s’mores to follow over an open fire.
