September 26 – 28 High Country Weekend Family Events

What is happening this weekend in the High Country for families? It is going to be a beautiful Fall weekend. Start the weekend by attending 50’s night at Chick-fil-A Boone and let the kids’ enjoy a free coca-cola float! This is just one of the many great family activities happening this weekend. September 26:

1. Harvest Farms in Valle Crucis host a family fun corn maze and pumpkin patch. Opened 10am-10pm.

Admission: Corn maze $8 Adults, $5 Kids 4-12, Seniors, Military and ASU students receive $1 off. Flashlight maze Adults $10, Kids $7

2. Regal Cinemas in Boone – Now showing: DOLPHIN Tale 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy.

3. Blazing Easels Kids Workshop at ASU Turchin Center – Each Friday students will learn a new art skill! These one-month sessions focus on three different cultures. Students will complete projects that are relevant to the themed culture for that session. All supplies included.

4. Chick-fil-A Family Fun 50’s Night – 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Chick-fil-A of Boone, come dressed in your 50’s attire and enjoy the evening! Twist the Balloon Man will be there along with Classic Cars, the Chick-fil-A cows and a photo booth. All children will receive a FREE small coke float!

5. Ghost Train Halloween Festival – It’s safe, scary fun for the whole family! Visit the Haunted House and the Freaky Forest. Step in to another world in the 3-D Maze and the Black Hole. Kids will enjoy the Halloween shows and trick-or-treating. And take a chilling journey on the Ghost Train – if you dare! Gates open at 7:30pm.

September 27:

1. Watauga County Farmers’ Market – Join us for the 40th anniversary season of Watauga County Farmers’ Market! The farmers’ market has been Boone’s Town Square since 1974. Opens at 8:00am in the Horn in the West parking lot.

4. Lowe’s Build and Grow – 10:00am at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Boone, Banner Elk and West Jefferson. Fire Safety Month is coming up in October. Get your kids excited by signing them up to build this cool Fire Truck! Sign them up today!

5. Fall Fables at the Museum “Jack and his Friends find a Home in the Mountains.” Jack Tales from the old and new countries, told by Tommy Brown. Ages 5 to 95. Free!

7. Hickory Ridge Living History Museum, located on the grounds of “Horn in the West,” is an eighteenth-century living history museum highlighting the daily lives of our mountain ancestors. See live demonstrations of a various pioneer skills, such as hearthside cooking, flintlock rifle, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, etc. Open Saturday mornings, May – October, and evenings before “Horn in the West,” Tues. – Sun., mid-June through mid-August. Admission to the museum is by donation.

8. Turchin Center Family Day Celebrating South Africa – 1:00 pm: The Turchin Center continues to celebrate the culture of South Africa through art activities with Family Day! Discover how children live, work and play on the continent of South Africa. The activities for Family Day are all themed around the current exhibition TWENTY: Contemporary Art From South Africa.
