High Country Family Weekend Events September 25 – 27, 2015

Happy weekend! Unfortunately, it is going to be a very rainy weekend but we can still make amazing family memories. We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled weekend. Check out all the family-friendly events below:

September 25

1. Tweetsie – Bring the whole family out to enjoy Tweetsie fun!

2. Harvest Farm Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch – Come create a memory, get lost in our 7 acre corn maze, pick a pumpkin, take a hayride and have a picnic. Bring your spirit of adventure and a flashlight to explore our family friendly flashlight maze.

3. New River Corn Maze – The maze is OPEN! The team is excited to start their 6th year of business. The hours are Friday and Saturday 10am to dark and Sunday 1pm – dark. Come enjoy this beautiful weekend getting lost in all the fun at the New River Corn Maze!

4. Open Play Time at The Children’s PlayhouseCome spend quality family time exploring the art activities, pretend vet clinic, climbing wall, dress-up area, ball pit and more! $5 per person admission or buy a membership for the whole family for $100 per year. Open play hours are 10-5 on Fridays and 10-3:00 on Saturdays.

5. Family Movies {Now Playing} – Hotel Transylvania 2 3D at Regal Cinema in Boone

6. Blazing Art Workshop – 3:00pm to 4:00pm: Children’s art workshop at Appalachian State University. Make wind chimes with buttons and old CDs, plus wind spirals from plastic water bottles.

7. International Sports Festival at Appalachian State – Come join in the fun as Appalachian State celebrates the culture of international competitive sports and martial arts from around the world. There will be demonstrations and games. FREE and open to the public.

8. App State Home Soccer Game – Appalachian State University women’s soccer will start its Sun Belt Conference schedule on Friday versus Arkansas State and Sunday against Little Rock. Game times are set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

9. Tweetsie’s Ghost Train – Named as one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, a ride on the Ghost Train is just the beginning. Take a stroll through the Freaky Forest and encounter dark surprises along the way. Visit the Boneyard and find your way through a 3-D Maze, a disorienting Black Hole and a mystifying Warp Tunnel. Or check out Tweetsie’s Haunted House, where 13 frightening rooms await brave visitors that dare to enter.

10. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 8 to 11 p.m. every Friday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public. September 26:

1. Watauga County Farmers Market is Open! – The market opens with live music from local musicians, cooking demos from local food enthusiasts, activities in the kids corner, and the unbeatable atmosphere that makes the market “Boone’s Town Square Since 1974!” Join PHARMN at the Kids’ Corner

6. Lowes Build & Grow: Build a Fire Truck with Safety Cards –  (10:00am) Fire Safety Month is coming up in October. Bring your kids into Lowe’s this Saturday and they can build this awesome Fire Truck!

8. Fall Festival at First Baptist Blowing Rock – 12:00pm till 4:00pm: Bounce Houses, Dunking Booth, Cotton Candy, Snow Cones, Funnel Cakes, Cake Walk, TWIST THE BALLOON MAN, Amazing Face painting by Bryony Renouf, Frito Pie, Games and Prizes- Tons of fun for the WHOLE family!

5. Mountain Pathways Montessori School’s Autumnfest – (12:00pm – 4:00pm) Admission to the festival is free. Mountain Pathways is located at 453 Howards Creek Road in Boone, NC.  For more information, please contact 828.262.5787 or mpathways@gmail.com.

The festival will have activities for all ages including inflatables, hayride, games, pony rides, cakewalks, plus bbq and other tasty treats. A live Auction at festival begins at 2:30 pm. Autumnfest is an annual event to support the educational efforts of this non-profit school.

6. Restoration of Blowing Rock’s First Fire Truck – (4:00pm) Free family-friendly event with refreshments and fire hats for the children.

This event is made possible by the partnership of the Blowing Rock Historical Society, Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, The Town of Blowing Rock and the Blowing Rock Fire Department.

7. Music on the Veranda at Green Park Inn, Blowing Rock, NC – Free concerts every Sunday evening from 5-8:00pm. Enjoy local favorites the Harris Brothers, The Neighbors, Mountain Radio, Todd Wright and more on the veranda of this classic historic hotel. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the show! Performances rain or shine- find the concert indoors in inclement weather. Drinks and Tavern Fare available.

 

High Country Family Weekend Events {August 21-23, 2015}

Happy weekend! Let’s celebrate the successes of the week with a beautiful weekend that includes temperatures in the high 70’s and plenty of sunshine. We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled weekend. Check out all the family-friendly events below:

August 21:

1. Tweetsie – Bring the whole family out to enjoy Tweetsie fun!

2. Open Play Time at The Children’s PlayhouseCome spend quality family time exploring the art activities, pretend vet clinic, climbing wall, dress-up area, ball pit and more! $5 per person admission or buy a membership for the whole family for $100 per year. Open play hours are 10-5 on Fridays and 10-3:00 on Saturdays.

3. Wee-Cycle Children’s Consignment 2015 Fall Sale – 10am – 6pm Shop local and support the community. Lots of great deals on children’s clothing, toys and baby gear.

4. Family Movie Showings: 

Appalachian State I.G. Greer – Avengers: Age of Ultron: 7 pm and 9 pm (Tickets are are $1.00 in advance at PSU Ticket Center located at the PSU Information Center (cash, App Express, & credit cards accepted) and $2.00 at the door (cash only).

5. Blowing Rock Recreation Pool – Enjoy the public swim from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

6. Jones House Summer Concert this week will feature Marcy Marxer & Cathy Fink, Tellico. Concert begins at 5 pm. Bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on and an umbrella in the event of rain.

7. Music in the Valle7:00pm The “Music in the Valle” Concert Series at Valle Crucis Community Park. Admission is free, but a $5 donation to the park per person is recommended. Bring a chair or a blanket and a picnic, as food generally is not available for sale.

4. Free Bike Rodeo at Hardin Park – The annual Bike Rode will take place this Saturday from 9am to 12pm at Hardin Park Elementary. The event is free and open to all elementary school-aged children. There will be bike inspection stations, bicycle safety lessons, fun activities, healthy snacks and and of course prizes.

6. Grandfather Mountain State Park — Go G.R.E.E.N. Day (Annual Event) – The fifth annual Grandfather Mountain State Park Event, Go G.R.E.E.N. Day will be held August 22, 2015 at the Foscoe Grandfather Community Park. he day will include guided hikes of the Profile Trail, storytelling, history, mountain stream ecology tours, games, activities and more. The event is free and suitable for all ages.

7. Lowe’s Build & Grow Kids Clinic –  10:00 am Thor has come to Lowe’s to end their “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” Summer! Register your child so they don’t miss the final clinic!  Watch the Animated Series Sunday Mornings on Disney XD!

8. Craft Time at Michael’s (Pencil Topper) – They craft, you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2 per child, supplies included.

10. Edible/Medicinal Plant Hike at Elk Knob State Park – Have you ever wondered whether the plants you see are poisonous or if they had healing properties? Come see the numerous wildflowers in bloom and learn about how they have been used by humans. Meet at the park office.
