High Country Weekend Family Events March 27 – 29

It looks like Spring is taking a break for the weekend. Bundle up and enjoy the weekend activities! Let’s see what is happening this weekend. There are fun Easter events planned for Saturday. We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled family weekend!

March 27:

1. Open Play Time at The Children’s Playhouse – Come spend quality family time exploring our art activities, pretend vet clinic, climbing wall, dress-up area, ball pit and more! $5 per person admission or buy a membership for the whole family for $100 per year. Open play hours are 10-5 Tuesday-Fridays and 10-3:00 on Saturdays.

3. Chili Benefit Dinner at Applachian/Brian Estates – The Kiwanis Club of Boone starts a new tradition this year bringing its first ever Chili Benefit Dinner to Appalachian/Brian Estates in Boone. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the dinner go to serve the youth of Watauga County. The chili is prepared and served by Kiwanis Club volunteers according to a member’s recipe.

The event includes an accompanying silent auction, which includes various items donated from local merchants. Diners may bid on restaurant vouchers, local handmade goods, services and more.

Dinner costs just $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

4. Family Movie Night at Greenbriar Theater – Homeward Bound is showing at 7:00 pm in the Greenbriar Theater, 2nd floor Plemmons Student Union. All showings are at 7:00 pm with cartoons showing 20 minutes prior.

March 28:

1. Annual Boone Area Lions $7 All-You Can Eat Country Breakfast – All You Can Eat for $7 Country Breakfast, served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., is a fundraiser to support Watauga vision- and hearing-impaired persons. Selection includes home cooked Country Ham, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, Pancakes, Orange juice, Coffee, Milk, Syrup, Sugar free syrup . . . And More! Lion Brooms are also on sale and we are collecting Eye Glasses, lenses, and hearing aids. Lots of parking space available.

2. Easter Egg Hunt in Banner Elk
9:30am – Breakfast with the Bunny at Banner Elk Cafe
11:00 – Children’s Egg Hunt in Tate Evans Park with Family Fun to Follow!

Activities following the Egg Hunt include:
– Magician Jacob McCormick
– Wagon Rides
– Face Painting
– Music and Dancing
– Photos with The Easter Bunny

Bring your dog out for an afternoon of fun!
All dogs must be on a leash and up to date on their shots!

3. Easter Eggstravaganza! Join the Chick-fil-A team for their 4th annual Easter Eggstravaganza at Chick-fil-A of Boone, 12pm-2pm. Join in for an exciting event full of Easter egg hunts and games! FREE Icedream for the kids.

5. Make a Pom Pom Baby Chick at Michael’s Craft Store: 10am – 12pm Drop in. Drop in. Take home a completed project. Just $2 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun. Ages 3 and up

6. “Folk Toys – Stop by the office and visit with a ranger as he shares a few folk toys from Appalachia. Participants will be challenged to operate each toy successfully. Children are encouraged to attend this short program.

7. Watauga County Library The Annual Downtown Boone Easter Eggstravaganza is a fun, family friendly event for the whole family the Saturday before Easter weekend. The Town of Boone, the Watauga County Library, and the Downtown Boone Development Association together provide arts & crafts, games, and an exciting Easter Egg hunt for children ages 0 -12.

The fun starts at 2 pm at the Watauga Co. Library located on Queen St. in downtown Boone. Children then “parade” down to the Jones House Community Center, just a hop and a skip away from the library, for more games and an Easter Egg hunt. Free refreshments, prizes, and more are provided.

9. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. every Saturday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public.
