Free Parking is available on Maple Street and on the parking decks by the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum and the American Legion, both on Wallingford Street. All three public lots are just one block from Main Street.

Boone Tree Lighting
December 6, 2019

Join us in downtown Boone for December’s Festive First Friday and help us herald in the holiday season. Stop by the Jones House lawn beginning at 5:30 PM for performances by the Appalachian Youth Chorale and the Watauga High School Honors Choir. The Solar Tree Lighting will take place at 6:30 PM with the help of the Appalachian State University Sustainable Energy Society. Afterwards, hang around for a free reception with light refreshments in the Mazie Jones Gallery featuring the abstract landscape art of Rachael Van Dyke, accompanied by an indoor performance in the parlor from ASU a cappella group, the Enharmonix.

Join the Festivities for the 2018 Festival of Trees {11/29-12/2}

The Festival of Trees is an annual event that is sure to please all who walk through the door! There will be over 75 themed trees & wreaths will be on display. All money raised at the event goes directly to the Western Youth Network (WYN). WYN invests in the lives of children and adolescents in order to build a better future and a stronger community for the High Country.

Holiday Stroll in Blowing Rock on December 9, 2016

The High Country is filled with many Christmas events this week. We hope you will take the family and make lots of great Christmas memories. Join the Town of Blowing Rock for the Holiday Stroll, a celebration of winter and the Christmas season in December. It’s like a town-wide holiday open house! On Friday, December 9 from 5 to 8pm, local businesses and organizations present an evening of fun surrounded by the twinkling lights of the season.

We have a great festival Holiday event for your entire family this week (December 3rd-6th). Chetola’s Festival of Trees is a magical holiday event that is sure to please all who walk through the door! Join in the holiday fun at Chetola Resort as the Appalachian/Blue Ridge Room will be transformed into a Christmas spectacle for this inaugural event in support of Western Youth Network. Over 75 themed trees and wreaths will be on display for your viewing enjoyment, along with free hot chocolate and cider to warm your insides as you stroll throughout the room and admire the creativity and dazzling lights.

This event also features gift baskets and raffle items, as well as a packed calendar of special events for extra holiday cheer. Any item could be your’s via our online auction or a simple buy-it-now feature at the event, to be collected on Sunday.

What is happening this weekend in the High Country for families? It is going to be a fun-filled Christmas weekend. Lots of great family memories in store. We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled family weekend!

Boone NC Parade

December 5:

1. Christmas at Apple Hill Farm – Join in as the farm celebrates the Christmas season with mini tours of the farm, pony rides on Saturday afternoons and complimentary homemade hot chocolate, hot apple cider and Christmas cookies. The store is fully stocked with your favorite alpaca yarns and accessories as well as table top Frasier fir trees, hand tied wreaths, and white pine garland.

Tours offered all day on weekends from 10am to 5pm. Tours are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 – 10. Children 3 and under are free! We’ll also be offering pony rides for children on Saturdays for $10

2. Live Nativity presented by Bethlehem & Beyond – Volunteer Live Nativity players will depict the birth of Christ outdoors. Drive by or park your car and come stand in front of the players on the sidewalk. Listen to the music. Let the scene before you take you back to the momentous time in history when God sent His Son, Jesus, to show His love for all mankind!

1. Flapjack Flip Pancake Breakfast – The Watauga Education Foundation continues their yearly tradition on Saturday, December 6 by holding the Flapjack Flip Pancake Breakfast (7:30am – 11:30am) at Watauga High School. Join in for a morning of flapjacks, fun and fellowship and, of course, shopping! Back this year, your Principals serving up coffee and making “tips” which go directly to your school. The Boone Service League will be hosting its Holiday Market too, so there will be great gift ideas. It’s the perfect way to start your Holiday and to make a difference for the students of Watauga County.

There will be a raffle and a silent auction.

2. Boone Christmas Parade – CELEBRATE the holidays in the heart of Downtown Boone!

Experience small town America at its finest with a procession down King Street, complete with decorated floats, local celebrities, dance troupes, music & more!

Special Appearance by Santa Claus

Families are invited to come by the Jones House Cultural and Community Center after the parade for
Hot Cider and Cookies.

AN APPALACHIAN CHRISTMAS – Mountain Home Music Concert: This Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music free concert is a holiday favorite here in the High Country and is eagerly anticipated by Joe’s friends each year. Nothing tops the spirit of the season’s tradition of giving any better than Joe’s annual benefit for the Hospitality House and Santa’s Toy Box! The Appalachian Christmas Concert will be hosted by Joe’s good buddies, the Mountain Home Music Bluegrass Boys. Consisting of the usual cast – David Johnson, Steve Lewis, Scott Freeman and Josh Scott will be playing many of the bluegrass and country Christmas favorites. There will lots of chances to sing a-long, as the band will cover such songs as “Christmas Time’s A-coming”, “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’ and “Jingle Bells” – look for a surprise appearance by the Dancing Elf! Other special guest will also be featured as the JSMHM music family comes together to celebrate giving back to our community. Donations will be accepted.

Studio K Presents the Nutcracker Ballet December 13 – 14

Studio K Nutcracker Ballet

Local youth ballet company, Studio K, transforms the Schaefer Center stage into a magical world where the beloved holiday ballet, The Nutcracker, comes alive. Entering into its 16th year as one of the most popular holiday High Country traditions, The Nutcracker will feature 300 local dancers. The annual performance by Studio K keeps close to the original ballet— dancing to the music of Tchaikovsky in over 400 costumes over the course of three performances. This event is perfect for all ages and makes for a perfect family holiday outing!

This is a great family event that is being presented this weekend. The true reason of the season. Enjoy hot apple cider, homemade cookies and live carolers each evening while you drive around Poplar Grove Baptist Church to view the Live Nativity Scenes.
