The 37th Annual “New River Canoe Race & Family Float” – June 2, 2018

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 2, at 9 am. All proceeds go to support Friends of High Country State Parks’ mission to support our state parks.

Music, free food samples, tubing, swimming, or hiking can all be found at New River State Park until the 3 pm Awards Ceremony. You do not have to race to enjoy these fun activities! Food from local food trucks will be available.

The event will begin at Zaloo’s Canoes in Jefferson, NC and travel five miles to the Wagoner Road Access of the New River State Park. This route is calm with no white water and just a few riffles along the way to make it fun.

If you’re a beginner, the average time to complete the race is 60 minutes, but more skilled paddlers can complete it in less than 45 minutes.

Make it a weekend, and book a campsite at Wagoner Access @ New River State Park, http://www.ncparks.gov/new-river-state-park.

NO SHOTGUN START. Gates open at 8:30am. Boats can enter the water anytime from 9 am to 1:30 pm and will be timed.

Please note boats with children need to be in no later than 1 pm.

Registration is $10 per person, $5 for children, and $25 for family float (up to 6 people) for a single race. Every additional race is $5. Registration includes a FREE T-shirt and entry for a door prize.

Enter with a Canoe or a Kayak. Bring your own boat or rent one at a discounted price from Zaloo’s Canoes. Zaloo’s will provide free shuttles.

This is a family-friendly event with options to enter as a “Novice”, “Expert”, or “Championship Category”. The “Special” category is for those with any special needs or elders.
