Today is Earth Day!

No matter what our political, social, or spiritual beliefs, we are all thankful for the world in which we live, and we should take care of it. This Earth Day, I have a couple of goals that I will try to implement this spring and summer.

  • I’m going to try to reduce trash, by recycling more paper, and using more cleaning cloths instead of paper towels.
  • I’m going to try to compost this summer for use in our garden. I can’t really afford a snazzy compost bin, but I think you can use a large rubbermaid container and drill holes in it. Is that right?
There are some neat activities for kids and families today, here are some of them:

Come Delight in Elkland Art Center’s “Gypsy Puppet Caravan” on Earth Day ! Elkland Art Center will perform a free puppet show: Trash Puppets “talkin’ about trash” at 4:00 and 5:45 on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22 at Green Mother Goods

Puppets made from trash will help educate kids and the whole family about how to make more Earth-friendly choices. Make art from trash workshop 4:30-5:30. A portion of sales will be donated to Elkland Art Center for their recycling educational puppet show. 116 W. King Street, Boone. FMI, call 828-262-3525 or email

  • Earth Day Greenhouses at Chick-Fil-A

All children are invited to come to Chick-Fil-A in Boone on Tuesday, April 22 from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM. We will be making free mini-greenhouses, and helping children plant seeds in them.

  • Every Day is Earth Day at Bald Guy Brew!! You would not believe all the eco-friendly things Don (aka The Bald Guy) does. Did you know that he composts his used coffee cups, grounds, etc., and uses it to grow mushrooms? Why? Well, you’ll have to go and ask him yourself!
