Watauga High School To Host Winterfest

The transition from middle to high school can sometimes be difficult, both for students and their parents. But the Watauga County Schools Student Services department, in conjunction with the GEARUP program, is stepping in to help.

The two groups will host the annual Winterfest program, an event that aims to help WCS eighth-graders transition to Watauga High School by giving students from each of the districts eight elementary schools a chance to meet and tour the high school’s facilities.

Winterfest will be held Jan. 16 for students at Green Valley, Mabel, Parkway, Valle Crucis, Two Rivers and Grace Academy and on Jan. 23 for students at Bethel, Blowing Rock, Cove Creek, Hardin Park and homeschooled students.

Each school has been assigned a date that coincides with parent information meetings that parents of rising ninth-graders are asked to attend. The Parent Nights will provide students and parents with important information about ninth grade registration, graduation requirements and opportunities and expectations at Watauga High School. It will also be a time when parents and students will be able to meet some of the key people who will be working with them during the students’ freshmen year.

The Parent Night portion of the evening will be held in the WHS auditorium from 5:30-6:30 p.m. It is expected that parents and students attend.

Contact your school counselor at each school for more information.
