Watauga Humane Society’s Reading for Paws

Reading for Paws is a program intended for an audience of 2nd grade through 8th-grade children. Its purpose is to promote children’s reading skills and interests, while also providing a means for socializing and promoting human interaction with cats and kittens that are housed at the Watauga Humane Society’s Adoption Center.

The program starts on June 12th and ends on August 9th with a Celebration! The program will run three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday, in the mornings. Children must be registered 24 hours in advance. Time slots of 30 minutes each will be available starting at 11:30 am and running until 12:30 pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Each child will have the opportunity to read to, and interact with, one of the Center’s cats.

Children who make at least 5 reading visits will receive a Reading for Paws t-shirt.
