Weekend Events ~ June 6-8

There’s a lot going on in the High Country this weekend.  Here are a few highlights:

Concert on the lawn at the Jones House in Boone 5:00 PM. www.watauga-arts.org Worthless Son-in-Laws.

At 6 p.m. there will be a free violin recital at the Rosen Recital Hall in the Broyhill Music Center on the campus of Appalachian State University.

The performers will be Bryson Penley and Maura Shawn Scanlin. Bryson Penley is 8 years old and will be performing pieces from Book 1 of the Suzuki Violin series. Maura Shawn Scanlin is 12 years old and will be performing The Meditation from Thais by Massenet; Concerto #23 in G Major by Viotti; and Czardas by Monti. A reception will follow the recital.

Pre-5 mile run spaghetti dinner at 6pm at the Buckeye like Recreation Center on Beech Mountain. Dinner costs $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids under 10 years. The public is invited to share in the dinner. Margaret Haggerty the 85 year old marathon runner is our guest speaker.

Southern Accent member, Paulette Isaacs, asks for your help.
Benefit for her cousin, Melvin Presnell, who has cancer and is financially in need, will take place at Bethel Baptist Church in the Bethel Community. Supper served from 4:30pm until 6:15pm and music starts at 6:30pm with Gaining Ground, Southern Accent and The Combs Family. Donations greatly appreciated. A Cool 5 (www.acool5.com/) is a new 5K event this year to benefit the Buckeye Recreation Center in Beech Mountain

Family Fun Night featuring Karaoke Gong Show and Carnival-Style Games,
Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church, (1218 Main St., Blowing Rock), 6:00 p.m. doors open / 7:00 p.m. stage shows start. Advance Tickets: Children and Students – $5; Adults – $7; Family of Four – $20; Add a Meal Ticket for Four – $15. Tickets at the Door: Children and Students – $6; Adults – $8; Family of Four – $25; Add a Meal Ticket for Four – $18. Come out for games and dinner…enjoy an entertaining show! At this carnival-style fund-raiser, guests will be able to see a fortune teller, have their faces painted, play popular video games like Guitar Hero and Mario Kart, and sing karaoke songs all while helping our team raise money to fight cancer. Advance tickets will be available at Boone Drug at Deerfield and Mountain City Pharmacy. But don’t worry if you can’t make it, tickets will be available at the door!
