weekend events March 20-22

Hi everybody!  My wish for spring seems to be coming true! 🙂 The weekend forecast looks great , if a little chilly.  At least we are set to be done with this overcast, rainy weather for a while… So, while I know we will all be out enjoying the sunshine, here are a few activities (indoor and outdoor) going on in the High Country this weekend.

Fun and games outside without leaving the house (even though you still need a light jacket):

Play Catch!  We have some great velcro mitts with tennis balls that the girls can use to prevent chasing the ball down the road (or down our tracherous hill) millions of times a day.  Love them!

Jump Rope – Cinderella, dressed in yella’, went upstairs to kiss her fella’… jumping rope is always more fun with a song!

Blow bubbles… those cheap little bubble kits with all of the fun bubble instruments make for HOURS of entertainment at our house.  One of our faves is the little plastic tennis rackets used for bubble chasing!

“Science” – give the kids an old mixing bowl, some water, and non-toxic ingredients (dish detergent, cornstarch, etc) that don’t react poorly chemically, and let them make their own “experiments” in the yard.  Learning is much more fun when it is messy!!

And don’t forget the old standby – HOPSCOTCH!  If you don’t have any sidewalk chalk laying around, grab some next time you’re in the Dollar Store – it’s amazing how long throwing a rock and jumping around will hold kids’ attention.

Saturday, March 21 – Community African Arts Festival at Living Water Christian Fellowship 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm – located across from the Wellness Center, near Boone Bowl, Living Water is hosting this festival, complete with kids’ activities, music, food, fun, and arts/crafts sales to raise money for a service and mission trip to Uganda!  Thanks to fellow momsquad contributor Tiffany Christian for sharing this awesome event!

Also on Saturday the 21st – Avery County Community Day 11:00 am – 2:00 pm  at the Old Cranberry High School – Door prizes, games, activities, vendors, music, and food, along with a WAMY yard sale!  First 300 local kids get a free goody bag!  More info – 828-737-0057

Wee Cycle will be having a HUGE 1/2 price event on Saturday March 21! Be sure to go in and get your last-minute steals!

Sunday, March 22 – Easter Egg Hunt on Sugar Mountain – 3rd annual Easter Egg Hunt on the slopes at 9:00 am.  One golden egg contains a season pass for ’09-10, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes!  Kids 12 and under only – everyone receives a free ice skating pass for next season.  Sounds like a good time! 828-898-4521

Life is Beautiful is one of the most inspiring movies of our time, and is showing for FREE at the Greenriar Theater in the ASU Sudent Union Sunday, March 22 @2:00 pm. The movie is rated PG-13, for strong thematic elements related to the holocaust, so only you know if your child is mature enough to handle the emotion and reality tied to this film.

Nostalgic Disney fan?  Race to Witch Mountain is showing at Regal – Have you seen it?  I’d love to hear how it is!

What are you doing this weekend?  Please comment and let us know of other exciting events or fun spring ideas!!

  5. Niki, I’m going to check out the MNO. Sounds fun!
